Kai, the Last of the Brunnen-G, the Romantic Dreamers

(Warning: This page is GRAPHICS INTENSE. Patience is a virtue, for the love of Kai! It's also quite far from even being finished...so practice your virtues.)

Tell me there isn't something about him...his slight barely-there smile, his unique hairdo, his stoic sense of responsibility, his intensity, and the fact that he's damn handsome...everything about him makes you forget that he's dead and spends most of his time frozen in a cryochamber. Oh well. At any rate, Kai is my obsession du jour, actually invading my mind at the most inappropriate times...though you won't find me complaining that I"m thinking of him as I pour someone some more coffee at work, or while I'm doing some idle housework.

This is the story as I know it so far, having seen Most of Season Two. (I'm ashamed to admit I haven't seen any of the 4 movies or the oft mentioned episode called "Brigadoom"--though I have most of the MP3's from the latter.) Kai lived on his planet, Brunnis 2, with all of the other Brunnen-G. Many years earlier, the Brunnen-G had helped humanity win the Insect Wars, so after that was taken care of, they were heros of the war. They all returned to Brunnis 2 and created a shield to surround their planet to prevent any other skyborn attacks. It was under this shield, now thousands of years old, that Kai lived, and wondered about the world beyond the shield. Ignoring admoishments that "none can fly" beyond the shield, he went out and discovered that the Divine Shadow was growing in power and threatening the planet. When he returned to warn his people, they were more upset that he had disobeyed the rules and punished him. Since the Brunnen-G had discovered how to stop death by stopping the aging process, they sentenced Kai to death by aging--a horrible death by Brunnen-G standards. He was locked in a cell and left to rot, when his lover came to save him...after which he and a few other brave souls decided the only way to save Brunnis 2 was to attack the Divine Shadow before he attacked first. They salvaged some ancient weapons from a museum and went out to attack. Unfortunately, the Divine Shadow captured Kai and made him watch while he killed everyone he knew and destroyed Brunnis 2, after which he killed Kai, removed his organs, and made him his own private assassin for the next 2,000 years. Finally, one day, something woke up inside of Kai and he decided that the Divine Shadow was not a good boss, and so killed him, destroyed his brain, and let Squish, his pet worm, eat the rest of the brain. So now Kai is free, but he's also dead, dependant upon protoblood (of which there is a limited supply until they find a stash), aboard the Lexx, and completely alone. Sure, he has Stan and Xev and 790, but he is truly the last Brunnen-G...

I'm sure I'm missing some things, if you want to write me and tell me, that'd be great... Hover your mouse over the pic for a neat little caption.

The new and Improved Kai Action Figure, complete with Kung-Fu Grip! A toss up for the quote: Trying to get up or get away, but it might just be the Electric Slide, too...or, Hey, the word of the day is legs, Kai, why don't you go out there and spread the word? ::sigh:: Wish it were me. This is his arm weapon thingy...it's like a scorpion, but it shoots out like a grappeling hook and really really hurts. Really.

I think there's a certain sadness about Kai. He has a sense of humor, but it's more dry humor...after all, he's been an assassin for 2,000 years--and he knows it. He had no choice, really; if he didn't want to die, he obeyed HDS (His Divine Shadow for those not in the know), but that doesn't mean he had to like it...and now that he's his own man, so to speak, he has to deal with the fact that he's killed probably thousands of people...he went from a peace-loving Romantic Dreamer to Personal Assassin to HDS. He lost everything and everyone he ever knew or loved trying to save them, and had to watch them all be destroyed because of the one person he hated most in his existance. Although he is a tragic character, he manages to pull off that certain wry humor that keeps him from being a total stick in the mud. IMHO, I believe he's trying to regain some of his "humanity" by not becoming totally depressed about the whole thing...and even though he loves to remind the crew that "the dead do not feel", both myself and many of the people I talk to are of a common thought that he does *indeed* feel, but since it's been 2,000 years since he last did so, he probably doesn't have a real easy time remembering how to do so...

I don't know what he's smiling at... Which way was the bathroom again? I think I'm lost... Ohhh, I got something on my shirt. (He's actually wrestling his pet, Squish.)

He not only is a tragic character, he's also a foil to Stan--or would it be the other way around? Whenever Stan gets the Lexx into trouble--or rather, the crew--it's always Kai who comes to the rescue. Usually he's the only one not in trouble because he's left behind when the others go off exploring. He has only a few months left of protoblood left if he uses it all at once, and so due to his dependancy on it, he spends most of his time in cryostasis. It's really rather goth/vampiric the way he "sleeps" in an upright glass coffin type chamber, which I'm sure is also part of the appeal...(more on this later.) He can be woken up either from outside or by himself, though I don't know how he always manages to wake up just in time to know something wrong is happening that would need his help. His constant rescuing of Stan and Xev only helps to reinforce her crush on him, as well...though we all know he doesn't feel and he can't...uh..."make her happy like that".

Perhaps in the dark universe...I will be light... Ooo, Kai Teeth. :D Another one just lookin...but damn, how I like to look! (I can see the gears turning in this one as he thinks.) A nice side view...he's got such luscious lips... Kai in a nice pose...I can't determine the mood, but I don't care, really... A good collage of Kai... I don't know what to think of this, it's like an art-house photo. Another good one
